Cuimhneamh (pronounced KWIV-noo) is a community based organisation dedicated to preserving the folklore, culture and heritage of South Armagh and its people. Cuimhneamh runs projects and engages in collaborations which share a knowledge of, and add to the appreciation of the long history of the area.
Much of the work undertaken by Cuimhneamh has its origins in the pioneering work of the folklorist, writer and republican socialist Michael J. Murphy who, although born in Liverpool, moved back to his ancestral home of Dromintee in South Armagh in childhood and remained there until his death in 1996. The Michael J. Murphy Winter School held annually in November continues an exploration of his concerns with social justice and folk history.
